"Lost in Yonkers" is a coming of age story for two young Jewish brothers in Yonkers New York.  A Neil Simon Comedy/Drama set in 1942.  Bitter old Grandma Kurnitz is forced by crazy Aunt Bella to take in her grandson's Jay & Arty for 10 months while their Father,Eddie takes a traveling job to pay off the loan shark that funded their Mother's funeral.  They stay in Grandma's small apartment above the family owned candy store.  Uncle Louie comes to visit. He's a small time gangster who acts like James Cagney with his hand gun and little black bag.  Also Aunt Gert stops by, she has a nervous tick that causes her to suck in her breath half way through each sentence.  For fear that she may say the wrong thing in front of Grandma. Both boys are fun loving and full of wit and humor beyond their years.

The roles of Aunt Bella and Grandma Kurnitz have already been cast.

The Characters are:

Eddie (mid 30’s to mid 40’s) Grown with 2 sons, Jay and Arty.  A Jewish New Yorker with an accent.  Nervous, especially around Grandma.  Also sad, since he recently lost his wife.

Jay (14-19 to play 15) one of Eddie’s sons. must be able to has a Jewish, New York accent.  He is funny and sarcastic and at times shows. A lot of guts. 

Arty (10 - 15 to play 13) One of Eddie’s sons. also a sense of humor. 

Aunt Gert (50's-60's) is a sweet spinster in her she has a nervous speech impediment that makes for some serious laughs. 

Uncle Louie (45 - 55) is a small time gangster who believes he's a big shot.  Also has an accent and quite an attitude.  He wears suspenders, suits, fedoras and caries a suspicious little black bag, and a gun.

All characters will be required to speak with a New York Jewish accent.
